Toni Serrat
 

Ciuret is the experimental-jazz-ambient project of Catalan musician Toni Serrat, drummer on his sisters' Joana Serrat and CARLA live bands. From his home studio, Serrat experiments with the sonic possibilities of everything he has at his disposal: drums, percussions, programming, loops, drones, rusty diesel drums or any other percussive or attractive sound element. Toni Serrat takes his artistic name from Ciuret, a small village of scattered farmhouses located in Vidrà (Barcelona). It is there extracts the essence of the most special memories of his childhood. Inspired by the idyllic sense of freedom of those years, Toni relates that time of discovery, play and learning directly to his way of composing, without preconceived ideas, through improvisation and intuition. In "Ciuret" (2020, Great Canyon Records), his eponymous debut, Toni Serrat has lined up with British musician Joe Harvey-Whyte on pedal steel guitar and Americans Ted Young (Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile, Moby), on production and mixing, and Taylor Deupree (Jónsi, Pan American, Michael Gira, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and owner of the New York label 12K), on mastering, to shape his ideas into a spectacular album, in which experimentation is not exempt from warmth and fragility. As in a perfect way to complete his own emotiona journey, Ciuret has featured by her sisters Carla (backing vocals) and Joana Serrat (electric guitar).
